A little over a week ago, on September 10th, I celebrated my birthday! Not going to lie, I had no clue what was in store for my birthday as well as the remainder of my birthday weekend. My birthday was on Sunday, so I made sure to celebrate all weekend long. Here’s what I did:
Movie: Home Again
First up, Saturday I decided to spend the day with my mom and see Home Again, starring Reese Witherspoon. It is about a director’s daughter, who returns to her father’s home after his death and during her separation with her husband. It was just as good as I expected it to be, I definitely recommend seeing it.
Dining at a French Restaurant
After the movie, my mom and I dined at Mon Ami Gabi, which is a French restaurant. I had my first Croque Monsieur, which is fancy French talk for a ham and cheese sandwich. It was beyond what I expected it to be, that is for sure. It was a tiny bite of heaven, for sure. I definitely recommend trying this chain of restaurants if it is your first time having French cuisine.
Saturday night, I ended up at a family friend’s party, where I was able to catch up with some people. I then decided to take it easy and retire sometime early for Sunday, because if I know anything about Andy, he was bound to make my birthday so special, and he did so very accomplished I might add. All he would tell me was that I needed to dress up!
John Hancock: Signature Room at the 95th Floor
Sunday, my birthday, I returned home from breakfast to a dozen red roses and a card. He told me in the card that I would be dining with him at the top of the John Hancock, the Signature Room at the 95th floor! We headed downtown early, all dressed up and walked around Michigan Avenue before our dinner reservation. If you have ever been to Chicago, you will know that Michigan Avenue has some great shopping and Oak Street, just off of Michigan Ave., is the Rodeo Drive of Chicago. There are tons of great designers. So, we went for a stroll and I drooled at all the lovely designer dresses, jewelry, shoes, and handbags. Here I am posing by a fountain at the famous Episcopalian Church on Michigan Avenue. So beautiful.
We arrived at the John Hancock at the perfect time. We strolled into the elevator, took it to the 95th floor and were seated to this remarkable view.
We opted to go big or go home with dinner and each got the filet mignon and garlic whipped mashed potatoes. Andy is not much of a red meat eater, but this time he was BLOWN AWAY! You would think this was HIS birthday! 😉
For dessert, we ordered the flourless chocolate cake. It was so decadent and even had gold leafing sprinkled on it! I paired it with a dessert wine, and it was extra delicious. Definitely topped off my amazing birthday surprise and one I will NEVER forget!
